چکیده

Climate change’s huge impact on Mediterranean species’ habitat suitability and spatial temporal distribution in the coming decades is expected. The present work aimed to reconstruct rockrose ( Cistus ladanifer L.) historical future distribution, a typically species with abundant occurrence North Africa, Iberian Peninsula, Southern France. R ensemble modeling approach was made using biomod2 package assess changes of Last Interglacial (LIG), Glacial Maximum (LGM), Middle Holocene (MH), present, (for years 2050 2070), considering two Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP 4.5 RCP 8.5). current potential modeled 2,833 occurrences, six bioclimatic variables, four algorithms, Generalized Linear Model (GLM), MaxEnt, Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). Two global climate models (GCMs), CCSM4 MRI-CGCM3, were used forecast past suitability. area equal 15.8 14.1% study for LIG conditions, while it decreased 3.8% LGM. presence diaminished more than half (to 6.8% 7% too low figure (2.2%) worst-case scenario 8.5) 2070. results suggested that climatic conditions are most suitable environmental may lead loss habitats, especially scenario. information unfolded by this will help understand predictable desertification region policymakers implement possible measures biodiversity maintenance avoidance.

Seasonal Variation of Cistus ladanifer L. Diterpenes

The exudate of Cistus ladanifer L. consists mainly of two families of secondary metabolites: flavonoids and diterpenes. The amount of flavonoids present in the leaves has a marked seasonal variation, being maximum in summer and minimum in winter. In the present study, we demonstrate that the amount of diterpenes varies seasonally, but with a different pattern: maximum concentration in winter an...

Intra-Population Variation of Secondary Metabolites in Cistus ladanifer L.

In previous studies, secondary metabolites in the leaf exudate of Cistus ladanifer, specifically aglycone flavonoids and diterpenes, were demonstrated to play an ecophysiological role. They protect against ultraviolet radiation, have antiherbivore activity, and are allelopathic agents. Their synthesis in the plant was also found to vary quantitatively and qualitatively in response to various en...

Chloroplast DNA phylogeography of the shrub Cistus ladanifer L. (Cistaceae) in the highly diverse Western Mediterranean region.

This study investigated the phylogeographic structure of Cistus ladanifer, in order to locate its Quaternary refugia, reconstruct its recolonisation patterns and assess the role of geographical features (mountain ranges, rivers and the Strait of Gibraltar) as barriers to its seed flow and expansion through the Western Mediterranean. Thirty-eight populations were screened for length variation of...

Identification of metalliferous ecotypes of Cistus ladanifer L. using RAPD markers.

The genetic diversity of Cistus ladanifer ssp. ladanifer (Cistaceae) growing on ultramafic and non-ultramafic (basic and schists) soils in the NE of Portugal was studied in order to identify molecular markers that could distinguish the metal-tolerant ecotypes of this species. Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers were used in order to estimate genetic variation and differences between...

Opinion: Big data has big potential for applications to climate change adaptation.

The capacity to collect and analyze massive amounts of data is transforming research in the natural and social sciences (1). And yet, the climate change adaptation community has largely overlooked these developments. Here, we examine how “big data” can inform adaptation research and decision-making and outline what’s needed from the adaptation community to maximize this opportunity. We contend ...
